The other day while shopping at Target with my 16th-month old, I made a slight detour through the toy section, as is my habit. Looking at the Batman and Star Wars toys, I felt such excitement for my son to be growing up and getting closer and closer to the age when we, oops, I mean he, could enjoy these amazing toys. Just looking at the aisle brought me back to the days of throwing Ninja Turtles and G.I. Joes out of trees, building amazing loops for our Hot Wheels collection, and building forts with my brothers, cousins, and friends.
Though my parents and grandparents are firm believers in education, they also allowed us ample time to be outside running around. It turns out that allowing kids time to play is really important for short and long-term “academic” and social benefits. I’m not surprised. Check out the summary of some recent papers here.
